Culture Insider: Things you need to know about Mid-Autumn Festival

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in Beijing, more than 30 overseas Sinologists from over 25 countries and regions experienced Chinese traditional cultural activities in Beijing, Sept 7, seeking to promote the culture of traditional etiquette to the world.

The activities included learning Tai Chi at Yuan Dynasty Dadu City Wall Relics Park and visiting Beijing Confucian Temple and the Imperial College, which has a long history of more then 800 years. Participants also tasted tea and appreciated the moon at Wudaoying Alley.

The activities were jointly planned by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and offered a platform for international cultural exchange and academic access to better understand China.

Sinology is the academic study of issues related to China through Chinese history, literature and language.

Carrying on the mission of expanding Sinology research, the Sinologists are staying in Beijing for 16 days, from Sept 4 to 20. Lectures and field trips cover a wide range of topics, from Chinese literature and language to international relations and the social and economic development of China. The Sinologists will gather and reflect from various academic perspectives the past 400 years of exchanges between the East and the West.
