The award was given at the opening ceremony of the sixth "Low-carbon Development, Green Livelihood" exhibition, which has the theme of "Low-carbon, making life greener." The exhibition opening and "2015 China Low-Carbon Model" awards ceremony was held at the Grand Hyatt Beijing on Thursday.
The annual event was organized by the China News Service and China Newsweek under the guidance of the National Commission of Development and Reform, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the State Council Information Office, and the Beijing municipal government, with the aim of popularizing low-carbon practices and promoting a green lifestyle.
Volkswagen Import displayed its first pure electric vehicle, the electric up!, at the exhibition from Thursday through Monday.
Launched by Volkswagen Import in China last year, electric up! meets the individual transportation needs of a new generation of consumers who are environmentally aware, fashion-conscious, tech-savvy and socially responsible.
"The Volkswagen Import electric up! marks a new trend of green mobility," said Till Scheer, managing director of Volkswagen Import. "It is a pioneer in e-mobility, offering Volkswagen's most advanced green technologies. It therefore brings excellent driving pleasure and the ultimate experience of environmental protection.
"Consumers will find that our products make their lives more convenient and more fun, while also making them more 'green'."
The electric up! has a futuristic design featuring diamond-cut headlights, fashionable C-shaped LED daytime running lights, and 15-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels. Every detail underlines the special features and German engineering, as well as expressing its driver's progressive and unique lifestyle.
The model is the first pure electric vehicle from Volkswagen Import in China, with an average electricity consumption of only 12.1 kWh per 100 kilometers.
It boasts a top range of 160 km, sufficient to meet most customers' daily commuting needs. The electric up! can temporarily turn off unneeded energy-consuming functions, delivering zero carbon emissions, zero fuel consumption and zero noise while driving, and setting a new energy efficiency benchmark for electric vehicles.
