China's top cyberspace regulator announced a guideline on Friday for the development of the mode for juvenile on mobile internet platforms.

According to a news release from the Cyberspace Administration of China, the guideline aims to fully leverage the positive role of the juvenile mode in preventing internet addiction and optimizing content, thereby creating a healthier and safer online environment.

The guideline outlines a comprehensive plan for the development of the juvenile mode, encouraging and supporting the participation of mobile smart devices, applications, and app distribution platforms in its construction.

It allows users to set overall limits on daily internet usage time under the juvenile mode.

Additionally, a CAC spokesperson said that the guideline specifies the content requirements for the juvenile mode, encouraging the provision of high-quality, age-appropriate content to better meet the cultural needs of minors.

At the same time, the juvenile mode will also strengthen content review, strictly filtering out illegal and harmful information to avoid negative impacts on minors.

Furthermore, the guideline proposed, for the first time, the age-specific recommendation standards, guiding applications to prioritize age-appropriate content in their content recommendations.

For example, under the juvenile mode, audio content is recommended for users under the age of three to reduce screen time, while content for users aged three to eight focuses on enlightenment and interest cultivation.
