        (Xinhua) Updated: 2012-09-09 16:38

MANILA - Nearly 2,000 people were displaced due to flooding in southern Philippine province of Sarangani Saturday afternoon, the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.

The massive flooding displaced 391 families or 1,955 individuals which transpired in Malandag village in Malungon town due to overflowing of Tinagakan-Buayan River caused by heavy rainfall, the agency said.

Some of the affected families were evacuated to the village multi-purpose gym, while others are either staying at their respective relatives or in makeshift temporary shelters, it added.

NDRRMC said there were no reported casualties in the flooding.
