Ghana to create better environment for investors

        Xinhua | Updated: 2012-09-07 10:55

ACCRA - Ghana's Trade Minister Hannah Tetteh said Thursday that the government would continue to create a conducive atmosphere for people to invest in the country.

She made the remarks at the opening of Shantui West Africa, a subsidiary of Shandong Shantui Construction Machinery Import and Export Company Limited of China, which has made Ghana the headquarters of its West and Central Africa branches.

She noted that Ghana's growth rate of 14 percent, one of the fastest in the world last year, meant the government would invest more in infrastructure.

Tetteh also urged Shantui Construction to create more job opportunities for local people as well as training in after-sales services to ensure technology transfer.

The minister called for more investments to be made in the country since it provided a conducive environment for the business community.

Gao Wenzhi, the Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, said China regards the West African country as a safe haven for investors. He also appealed to Chinese investors to obey the laws of Ghana.

Anthony Dawson-Amoah, general manager of Shantui West Africa Limited, told Xinhua that the company had so far invested?$4 million in the country.

He said the focus of the company lay on after-sales services and that Shantui would work to ensure more Ghanaians were trained to acquire relevant skills and employ more locals.
