Hillary Clinton raises $35m in Feb(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-02-29 09:55 WASHINGTON -- US Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton of New York raised US$35 million in February, her campaign said Thursday.
In a conference call, Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe also said that the former first lady also added 200,000 new donors to the campaign's rolls. That marks a significant recovery and her best fundraising period in the presidential campaign. In January, Clinton raised only US$14 million, in comparison to rival Senator Barack Obama of Illinois's US$36 million. Both Clinton and Obama are focusing on March 4, when Rhode Island and Vermont will join Ohio and Texas to hold primaries. Obama has won the last 11 primaries or caucuses, leading Clinton in many national polls and edging slightly ahead in most news organizations' counts of delegates to the Democratic National Convention. The Clinton campaign acknowledged that it must do well in Ohio and Texas, where she has enjoyed a wide lead in public opinion polls, to have a realistic shot at taking the party presidential nomination, but the latest surveys ahead of the debate were not promising. |
