DPRK's top legislator meets Malaysian FM (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-05-19 20:17
Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of
the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has met with visiting Malaysian
Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar, the official Korean Central News Agency
(KCNA) reported on Friday.
They had an friendly exchange of views on bilateral ties and international
and regional issues of common concern when they met Thursday at the Mansudae
Assembly Hall, the KCNA reported.
"The Malaysian foreign minister said the Malaysian government respects the
sovereignty of the DPRK and sends full support and solidarity to the struggle of
the Korean people," said the KCNA.
According to the KCNA, the Malaysian foreign minister ended three-day visit
to the DPRK on Friday.
Prior to Syed Hamid's travel, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said in a
statement that the visit would provide the foreign minister an opportunity to
"have a first-hand look at the situation in the DPRK and to reiterate Malaysia's
support on efforts undertaken toward peace and stability in the Korean
Peninsula."
