Air Mauritius to open direct flight to China

Air Mauritius will be offering its first direct flight to China from July 5.

The flight will start from Shanghai, the 25th air terminal for the African airline.

Shanghai will also be the airline’s fourth stop in Asia, along with Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. The new flight will stop in Kuala Lumpur where passengers can transfer to flights to Reunion Islands, Madagascar and South Africa.

Andre Viljoen, acting CEO of Air Mauritius, said that the company will offer non-stop flights to China for next year’s Chinese Spring Festival in February.

Another ambitious plan is to open two non-stop flights to Shanghai weekly, in the near future, so there will be a flight from Asia to Mauritius every day, Viljoen added.

The remark came during a “Vanilla Islands” show in Beijing and Shanghai, May 17-19.

Vanilla Islands refers to six Indian Ocean island countries and regions -- Mauritius, the Seychelles, Reunion Islands, Madagascar, Mayotte, and the Union of Comoros. These areas have said they will offer integrated tourist packages for Chinese tourists.
