Ethnic minorities games to open in Guiyang

Guiyang, Guizhou province - More than 20,000 athletes, guests and volunteers will attend a gala held in Guiyang, Guizhou province, to celebrate the upcoming Ninth Traditional National Games of Ethnic Minorities.

The gala will be launched on Sept 15 and last for eight hours, with a range of shows featuring characteristics of those ethnic groups.

There are about 49 ethnic groups now living in Guizhou, the second-largest number of ethnic groups in China's provinces and regions, just after Yunnan province.

The local government spent some 20 million yuan ($3 million) on the gala.
