Migrant workers express themselves in films

Liu Qinghua, an amateur filmmaker, talks with his actors before shooting a scene in Yiwu city, East China's Zhejiang province, April 27, 2012. Liu, a 30-year-old migrant worker, along with several other peers who are also enthusiastic about movies, formed a grass-roots team dubbed Simply Happy, with a secondhand video camera bought for 700 yuan online. The team members are ordinary workers in the city and include a cake maker, deliveryman, and salesman. “We are members of the city's 1.5 million migrant workers and part of the city, but there are few things here reflecting us, so we want to express ourselves through movie making,” Liu said. Their first short film, also known in China as micro-movie, is 2 minutes long and cost only 100 yuan to make. It tells a story about stealing and robbery. The film gained a lot of praise on the Internet.[Photo/CFP]
