Comment on "Keeping pace with China's crazy drivers" (China Daily website, June 26)
I think that foreigners have to forget about the driving rules and habits of the countries they come from. When a person says that drivers have to be on high alert while driving in China, it should be taken as an understatement. A driver needs to have his/her head on a swivel all the time because someone or something could come out of nowhere - from the right or left, or from the front or back. It could be a jaywalker, a scooter, bicycle or a car.
I've driven in different cities in China, and from my experience I can say that the bigger the city, the better its drivers. The hardest road trip that I have taken was during the National Day holiday last year when I drove from Changsha in Hunan province to Guilin in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and back.
