Comment on "12 students killed as bus rolls into river" (China Daily, Dec 13)

There is nothing wrong with China's laws and regulations. But the same cannot be said about their enforcement.

Sometimes I ride my bicycle in Shenzhen. But even in areas where traffic is not thick, many drivers make the roads hazardous for cyclists like me.

The authorities should carry out more roadside safety checks on the trucks and buses that are in disrepair and force their drivers and owners to get them repaired so that they do not cause accidents. And drivers should be made to go through a strict training routine before being given a driving license.
