Comment on "Food safety at foreign fast-food giants under fire" (China Daily website, Aug 5)

Food safety is not just a problem with foreign food companies; many Chinese companies are equally, if not more, guilty. Foreign companies do not necessarily pay more attention to food safety than domestic ones, and vice versa.

In fact, it is the inadequacy of our food safety watchdogs that has caused the scandals. Let's not forget that most of the time consumers not supervisors found the problems. Perhaps someone should watch the watchdogs to make sure they make constant checks on food outlets.
