Double-amputee Oscar Pistorius has failed in his final attempt to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The "Blade runner" was competing in the Spitzen Leichtathletik event in Lucerne, Switzerland on Wednesday in a last ditch attempt to secure the necessary qualifying time for the Games.
The South African came third in the race with a time of 46.25 seconds, 11 hundredths faster than his previous best, but still significantly outside the Olympic qualifying standard of 45.55 seconds.
It was his final chance to impress the South African selectors, but there remains a chance that he may still be invited to compete in the four-by-400 metre relay.
