BEIJING -- The Beijing Capital International Airport will implement special security checks to ensure air transport safety during the upcoming Olympics.
From July 20, security checking equipment will be installed at the entrances of all three terminal buildings of the airport, an airport spokesman said here Wednesday.
Passengers, people who come to receive or see the passengers off as well as those who work at the airport will all have to undergo security checks if they are to enter the airport, he said.
Those who illegally bring flammable and explosive substances into the airport will face severe punishment, he said.
Within the terminals, the routine baggage and security checks will go on as usual.
The airport advised people who come to greet or see passengers off not to enter the terminals to save time.
The airport also promised to take measures to avoid congestion at the entrances.
The spokesman said it is yet to be decided when the temporary rule will end.
The Beijing Olympics will open on August 8.
