After graduating from the Beijing Film Academy, Xiao Jiang began her career
as a scriptwriter on the internationally recognized Wang Shouxian's Summer
(2002) and debuted as sole screenwriter and director with 2003's Electric
Shadows. Screened at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2004, Electric
Shadows also received the Lotus Premiere Award at the 7th Deauville Asian Film
Festival, the Judging Committee Prize at China's Changchun Film Festival and the
Jury Award Marakesh from Time Magazine.
"What can my films bring to audiences? I believe that simple enjoyment is
most important. After that I hope to provide some moving moments, and maybe a
little enlightenment.. "
Xiao Jiang's YFNP film draws inspiration from Yunnan's world famous Pu'er
tea.
