Mohei Ancient Town is located in Mohei town of Ning’er county, and it is known for its Mohei Salt, which was popular in ancient times for its purity and taste. The town also owed its prosperity to the tobacco trade and the Ancient Tea Horse Road, which led countless people through Mohei Town to Beijing and coastal areas.
Today, the salt well, ancient building, time-honored alleys and stone paths all reflect this past glory. Mohei was also the hometown of the famous actress Yang Likun and the national hero Zhang Peiying.
The town has many wooden residences lined row upon row along the streets of Xinzhen and Xinmin. The houses nearly all have black tiles, white walls and red wooden stockades, all colored with a touch of yellow by the passing of time.
