The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone said on Nov 2 that it had completed 15 infrastructure improvement projects by the end of October.
The zone has allotted 4.5 million yuan ($663,000) this year to the projects including drain pipe network reconstruction along Pudong street.

"The drainage network problem involves seven companies and 5,600 residents. The Zone put in 1.3 million yuan to reshape the network and succeeded," said Qi Kairui, Pudong street community’s Party branch secretary.

Li Yuping, a local resident, said that the pipelines have never been blocked again since the project finished.
"The 15 projects also include adding rain sheds for bridges and pedestrian crossings for certain streets," said Song Xinye, an authority of the construction bureau.
