According to informed sources within Taiyuan Sports Bureau on June 4, the Shanxi provincial government has decided to bid for the 2019 National Youth Games with its capital Taiyuan as the host city. Held every four years, the National Youth Games grew out of the National City Games and has a long history. The first National Youth Games will be held in 2015 in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province. Shanxi province will take part in the competition to bid for the second National Youth Games in 2019.
Recently the 45th Executive Meeting of the Shanxi Provincial Government approved the resolution to bid for the 2019 Games. As for the bidding process, Gao Bo, director of Taiyuan Sports Bureau, said that they will bid for the second National Youth Games in August officially in the name of the provincial government. And then the General Administration of Sport of China will decide the final host city by voting in December.
Though more work should be done to perfect the preparation in shooting, archery and aquatic events, Shanxi has been well equipped for the comprehensive sports events in facilities since a lot of modern sports venues have been finished and put into use, such as the Shanxi Sports Center and the Binghe Stadium in Taiyuan.
However, it is still unknown how many cities will take part in this competition, which can be considered as the most uncertain factor for Shanxi province. The result should be clear by August. And if successful, it will become the first comprehensive sports games held by the Shanxi provincial government.
