As a precursor to the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, the 2016 China-Canada Finance Forum was held at the China Financial Information Center in Lujiazui, Shanghai on Sept 2.

The forum brought together a panel of distinguished officials, corporate leaders, and economic experts from both countries to share their insights on hot financial topics. The experts discussed China's supply-side structural reform, the influence of the low interest rate policy imposed on financial markets, China's overseas asset allocation as well as the securities industry risk management.

Currently, China is Canada's second-largest trading partner after the US. The China-Canada Finance Forum has served as a communication platform for Chinese and Canadian enterprises and financial institutions to seek mutual cooperation and further development.

Jia Kang, member of CPPCC Economic Committee stressed the significance of system and technology innovation in China's supply-side structural reform at the forum. He said China should focus on increasing the quality not the speed of its output, and enable the market to play a decisive role in resource allocation.

Wayne Wouters, former Canadian Cabinet secretary-general, introduced Canadian policies and regulations designed to attract investment. He also encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Canada.

Shen Jiaran, president of the China Centre City Money Trust, said China should adhere to developing the industries with Chinese characteristics while learning from Canada's advanced management systems and practical experience.

The forum was organized by the Canadian-Chinese Finance Association (CCFA), and sponsored by China Financial Futures Exchange, Toronto Stock Exchange, Shanghai Internet Financial Industry Association, Shanghai Financial Association and China Financial Information Center.
