The Jiading district of Shanghai has received historic number of tourists and tourism revenue during the just passed Spring Festival, according to local tourism authorities on Feb 15.
Tourists to Jiading rocketed to a record high, with nearly 365,000?people visiting the district during the week-long holiday between Feb 7 and 13, an increase of 74.38 percent compared with last year.
And tourism income amounted to 1.8 million yuan ($277,000), about 78.16 percent higher than the same period of the previous year.
Trips to ancient towns and rural areas were favored most by the tourists, said local tourism officials.
Key tourist sites, including Zhouqiao Scenic Spot, Nanxiang Old Street, Guyi Garden, Huating Modern Agriculture Park, Auto Expo Park and Auto Museum, remained to be hot spots for visitors.
Statistics also show that a total of 170,000 visitors went to the Zhouqiao Scenic spot during the holiday, a surge of 134.24 percent year-on-year, with 100,000 to the Nanxiang Old Street and 65,000 to the Guyi Garden.
Thanks to the boom in visitors, sales volume of local commercial areas and restaurants also soared, said local officials.
