The National Bureau of Statistics teamed up with 11 high-tech firms to use big data technology in the collecting, processing and analyzing of important statistics.

The bureau inked a strategic partnership agreement with companies that specialize in big data technology, such as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd and Baidu Inc, in Beijing on Tuesday.

The agreement is set to increase the bureau's efficiency in processing data and help the bureau release high-quality statistics, such as CPI, one of the key inflation gauges.

Ma Jiantang, head of bureau, said that the era of producing, sharing and using data is coming. "Big data will become the foundation of government management, social management and macro-economic control," he said.

Under this partnership, the bureau and the 11 companies will co-develop a standard on how to use big data in statistics.
