The Dandong Jinshan Economic Development Zone was established on March 3, 2010, at the eastern end of what was being planned as the Liaoning Coastal Economic Belt, on a 77.8-square-kilometer pice of land. It now has about 45,600 residents, 17,250 mu (1,150 hectares) of arable land, and 50,352 mu (3356 hectares) of forested area, with forest-coverage of 55.2 percent.
The zone has a convenient traffic set-up with a number of expressways, national highways, and railways, which converge on the area.
It also has a solid industrial foundation, with the Dandong Jinwan Group, Dandong Machine Tool Co, Ltd, and other enterprises serve as the center. One part consists of the Dongfa Group, Huanghai Special Vehicle Co, Colossus Pump, and related enterprises, while another consists of the Tianze Group, Shanshui Gongyuan, and related enterprises.
The zone has been blessed by nature: There is the picturesque Heigou Reservoir and villages of Paoshouying and Shancheng, an abundance of geothermal resources, and the Shuangling Temple, which, together make Jinshan a good place for both residents and tourists. It also has social resources such as Eastern Liaoning University and more than 10 schools. These are a good source of talented personnel, and support for the zone’s enterprises.
The zone asked prominent planners to draw up a Strategic Development Plan for it and have worked on detailed plans for roads, a communications system, green space, drainage and landscaping.
The municipal planning commission has a “one river, two water systems, three mountains, two centers, two areas and six blocks” plan as follows: The one river, two water systems and three mountains refers to the Dasha River, the water system of the Jinshui River and Pichai Channel, and the mountain system to the northwest and south. Together, they form the green heart and an outer, green barrier.
The two centers, two areas and six blocks refer to the urban construction pattern. The two centers are the public utilities in the development zone and the education and training center, which are key to the development of the zone. The two areas are the Jinshan new area to the west of the mountain and the rebuilt Jinshan old area to the east. The six blocks are the living areas, eco-industrial part of the new area, the cultural-educational block, old city industrial block and Tiedong industrial block in the old area. In this way, the zone hopes to develop an ecological, livable, dynamic, cultural, and pivotal Jinshan.
The zone is making a great effort to improve itself so it can play an important role in the economic growth of Dandong and a new political, business, trade, cultural, educational, tourist and logistics center.
