From May 22 to May 23, 2012, a joint study group of four geologists from China and France carried out an in-depth study on the geology, geomorphology and the formation of granite in Sanqing Mountain. They put forward proposals and suggestions for the Sanqing Mountain, which has been on the waiting list to be a World Geopark.
The geologist team included Doctor Skerrit, director of the Earth Science Research Institute of University of Orleans (Universite d'Orleans), Chen Yan, a world famous expert on structural geology, Wang Rucheng, director of the School of Earth Science and Engineering at Nanjing University, and Xu Xisheng, distinguished visiting professor titled as a Yangtse River Scholar, a program propped up by the Ministry of Education of China.
During the two-day trip, the geologists conducted on-site inspections on the geology and geomorphology structure of the Sanqingshan Mountain scenic spot. They collected large quantities of rock samples and investigated the formation of the granite in the area to further enrich the geology and geomorphology study results of the Sanqingshan Mountain. During inspections, experts exchanged views with people concerned on the implementation of scientific research and cooperation with the scenic spot in the future.
The geologists said that as a granitic microgeomorphology museum, Sanqingshan Mountain possesses rarely-seen geology landscapes and unparalleled natural beauty. They suggested that the uniqueness of the geology landscapes should be fully explored, adding a significant weight on the scenic spot’s way to a World Geopark.
