26th National Book Expo mascot
Updated: 2015-10-27
The 26th National Book Expo, in Baotou, has a mascot -- Lulu -- a cheerful, running deer holding a book, dressed in Mongolian clothing and a Hada (a piece of white silk used as a gift to greet visitors by the Tibetans and Mongolians).
The Mongolian name for Baotou means "place with deer", since it is home to many kinds of wildlife and the Chinese know it as a "Deer city".
The organizers of the expo explain that the mascot is meant to convey Mongolian friendliness and hospitality to book lovers and dealers from across China and elsewhere, to welcome them to Baotou.
