Guizhou province has suffered from large-scale persistent rainfall since May 15, and more than 30,000 people have been affected by the heavy rain, Guizhou City Daily reported.
The Guizhou meteorological department published 44 warnings on May 20 and 21 to remind people and the department responsible to take measures to reduce risks.
Statistics show that, by the morning of May 20, the heavy rainfall had caused direct economic losses of 3 million yuan ($481,100). There are more than 200 people in need of shelter, 700 people in need of emergency medical assistance and 100 houses in need of repairs, according to the Guizhou Disaster Relief Office and Guizhou Civil Affairs Department.
