According to the newly released air quality plan (2015-2020) from the Xiamen government, the number of days with qualified air in 2015 is expected to reach over 340 days.

The government is aiming to improve the city’s air quality by reducing nitrogen oxide, which has become the main pollutant of Xiamen’s air, especially in urban areas, said the director of the Xiamen Environmental Protection Bureau.
The number of days with qualified air is expected to account for over 94% of the total days in 2015, and the ratio is expected to reach over 97% by the end of 2020. The number of days with unqualified air is expected to be less than 15 by year’s end in 2020.
According to the Fujian Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, Xiamen’s air quality met 100% of the air quality standards in the 3rd quarter, which was superior to Fuzhou and Quanzhou.
In the third quarter, the main pollutant in Xiamen was ozone.
