On November 4, the opening ceremony for establishing Dehong as an ecological prefecture was held in Ruili, marking the activity’s formal transition into the implementation phase.
Under the support of the provincial government and relevant departments, Dehong launched its “ecological Dehong” strategy many years ago. It has developed many activities over the prefecture to further enhance people’s environmental awareness and to improve the quality of the environment, and has achieved remarkable results, laying a solid foundation for establishing “ecological Dehong.”
“After many years of hard work, Dehong’s ecological construction has made remarkable achievements, and the botanical garden in Ruili is the most outstanding one of all. Since this garden was established 8 years ago, it has introduced and protected more than 1000 kinds of rare and endangered plants, contributing a lot to the conservation of biological diversity,” said Wang Jianhua, director of the Environmental Protection Agency of Yunnan province.
At the ceremony, Dehong was declared the “Yunnan Education Base for Biodiversity Conservation” and “Yunnan Education Base for Environment.”
