The spectacular successes of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland have prompted a spike in 3D investment in China. The number of 3D screen in China is second only to the United States. Chinese 3D films are filling up the cinemas. Though the Don Quixote released in October didn’t enjoy much box office success, Chinese film producers are still busy preparing the 3D market with huge investment, such as the Monkey King and New Dragon Inn with famous actors. The 3D animated movie Legends of the Lord Rabbit will also be released next year after 120 million yuan in investments and 3 years preparation.
The latest trend in the 3-D film industry is 3-D television. The sale of 3D TV sets in October exceeded 21 thousand in one hundred major cities, and it has taken 1.5 percent of the sale of flat televisions.
On November 18, the first 3D Technology and Innovation Expo was held during the Fifth Beijing International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo. The filmmakers, experts and producers gathered together to discuss and promote the development of the Chinese 3D film industry. |
