The five-day exposition aims at supporting original works of cartoon characters, cultivating the new market, integrating various resources and promoting the industry. The expo emphasized keeping innovation in the field while expanding in scale to prompt the integrative development of China’s cartoons and games industry. The exposition includes exhibition displays, professional forums, awards, a Chinese cartoon art exhibition and original cartoon shows.

The place of the exposition, Shanghai Exhibition Center, is about 30,000 square meters, and is divided into seven special areas. During the exhibition, industry organizations will hold the forum of the Cartoon derivative industries of Shanghai, the summit meeting of M&A in the Chinese cartoon industry and the conference for Suzhou cartoon movies investment.

The first Chinese original cartoon prize was awarded on the eve of the opening ceremony. Because of the Shanghai Expo, “Haibao” and other characters of the Expo became popular among cartoon products. In the exhibition rooms, Husizai and his playmates from the movie “Expo Story” cheerfully say hello to visitors; “Haibao” then becomes the leading character of a newly issued board game, letting children play while thinking creatively.

Chinais creating more original Chinese cartoon characters. According to surveys, among children aged 1 to 10, the local cartoon character “Xi Yangyang” is already more popular than Mickey Mouse. In addition, comparable sales rates between domestic cartoon products and foreign cartoon products has been 9:1, compared to 1:9 several years ago. Experts said this means the domestic cartoons are at last accepted by the consumers, and will become more successful in 2010.
