Mexican Manuel Uribe, the world's fattest man in the 2007 Guinness Book of Records, has married his friend's widow in a televised ceremony the US Discovery Channel dubbed "My Big Fat Mexican Wedding."
Despite shedding 230 kilograms (570 pounds) from 590 kilograms early on this year, Uribe, 43, had to be carried by a crane on his bed, where he has been confined for years, to the makeshift altar at a venue 30 minutes from his home on Sunday.
The ceremony was televised by Discovery as part of a special, exclusive program titled after the 2002 US movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," with other reporters from Japan, Germany and Argentina in tow. No other cameras or cellphones were allowed inside.
"They're married. Now everybody's clapping their hands and congratulating the couple," Monterrey Mayor and wedding witness Cristina Diaz told reporters.
Uribe has been suffering from morbid obesity since 1992. He was gripped by suicidal thoughts until February of this year when he undertook a drastic diet.
He and his wife, Claudia Solis, first met four years ago at the deathbed of a friend of his who weighed 250 kilograms (551 pounds).
The wedding reception had a "low-calorie banquet" with meat, cream of mushroom and buttered vegetables.

盡管43歲的烏里韋今年初成功地從590公斤減掉230公斤（570磅），不過(guò)他還是無(wú)法下床。在上周日的婚禮當(dāng)天，他只好動(dòng)用起重機(jī)將自己連床帶人搬到婚禮現(xiàn)場(chǎng)臨時(shí)搭建的典禮臺(tái)上。烏里韋已經(jīng)在床上度過(guò)了好幾年。舉辦婚禮的地點(diǎn)距他家有30分鐘路程。
美國(guó)“探索發(fā)現(xiàn)”頻道為烏里韋的婚禮策劃了一期直播特別節(jié)目，節(jié)目的名字源于2002年的一部美國(guó)電影《我的盛大希臘婚禮》，此外，現(xiàn)場(chǎng)還有一些從日本、德國(guó)和阿根廷遠(yuǎn)道而來(lái)的記者。但參加婚禮的人不可攜帶照相機(jī)和手機(jī)入內(nèi)。
蒙特雷市市長(zhǎng)、婚禮的證婚人克里斯蒂娜?迪亞茲在接受記者采訪(fǎng)時(shí)說(shuō)：“一對(duì)新人喜結(jié)連理。每個(gè)人都為他們鼓掌，為他們祝福。”
烏里韋于1992年患上過(guò)度肥胖癥。今年2月之前，他一直在嚴(yán)格節(jié)食，并一度出現(xiàn)了自殺的念頭。
他與妻子克羅迪婭?索里斯于四年前在朋友臨終時(shí)相識(shí)。他的這位朋友體重達(dá)250公斤（551磅）。
當(dāng)天的婚宴以“低熱量”食品為主，包括肉類(lèi)、奶油蘑菇和黃油蔬菜等。
