Kraft gets awards for “green” initiatives

        By Liu Zhihua | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2012-12-19 17:31

Kraft Foods China’s four factories recently received awards worth more than 1 million yuan ($160,457) from local governments to recognize the company’s continued dedication to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

Two plants in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, received 680,000 yuan from the Guangzhou Development Zone after introducing two “green” projects called “Chimney Waste Heat Recovery” and “Silicon Dehumidifier”.

The two initiatives can save about 1.2 million watts of electricity and about 90 tons of crude oil in the two plants, which is equivalent to a saving of 275 tons of coal or more than 1,300 tons of CO2 emissions.

Two plants in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, completed two projects known as “High-Efficient Lighting” and “Oven Waste Heat Recovery” in August 2012, and received 390,000 yuan from the Suzhou Economic and Information Technology Commission and Suzhou’s Industrial Zone. The two projects will save about 500 tons of coal every year.

“We are committed to lowering our energy consumption, CO2 emissions and water consumption during the manufacturing process. Our efforts have been well recognized by local governments which inspired us to strive for better environmental stewardship,” said Gao Wenrui, operations vice-president of Kraft Foods China.
