LOS ANGELES? – "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood's new comedy series "Wilfred" has received a 13-episode order from FX cable network.
Based on an Aussie comedy, "Wilfred" stars Wood as Ryan, a socially awkward introvert who meets Wilfred (Jason Gann), described as part Australian Shepherd, part Russell Crowe on a bender.
While the rest of the world sees Wilfred as a dog, Ryan sees him as a man dressed in a dog suit.
Fiona Gublemann co-stars as Jenna, Ryan's next door neighbor and Wilfred's owner.
The show, which will premiere next summer, will be written and executive produced by "Family Guy's" David Zuckerman.
Wood most recently starred in the ensemble feature "The Romantics" with Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Anna Paquin.
