A blast triggered by unknown causes leveled an apartment building at early hours Sunday in south China, killing nine people and injuring four, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

The explosion occurred at about 2:00am Sunday in a three-story building in Leye county, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Seven were killed in the blast, and two more were pronounced dead after emergency treatment failed.

The four injured were being treated in a local hospital, it said.

The cause of the blast was under investigation. But a Nanfang Daily report said local suspected the blast might be caused due to a love affair dispute.

Police identified the owner of this apartment as Wang Rong. He leased the rooms to nine tenants. Wang was not in the building when the blast occurred.
