Drought hits Shaoyang in Hunan (newsphoto) Updated: 2005-11-10 16:28
An old man swallows a handful of muddy
water in the field in Dahu village of Shaoyang County,
central China's Hunan Province on November 9, 2005. Due to a
four-month long ravage of Autumn drought, six big wells, the main sources
of drinking water for more than 1,000 villagers of Dahu and Wenchong
villages, are almost devoid of water. Villagers have to resort
to every possible source of water to quench their thrist.
