Fewer goals take luster off U.K. soccer

Lampard said that the sight of 13,000 empty seats at Stamford Bridge for last week's 1-0 Champions League victory over Belgium's Anderlecht is a rarity.

"A big deal was made about one game. There's a lot of football on TV but we still get a lot of full houses," Lampard said. "We get great support and a lot of teams up and down the country get it as well."

But Chelsea and Liverpool aren't the only teams being labeled with the boring tag. Bolton and Blackburn played a recent 0-0 tie that was panned by the critics because both teams made sure they didn't lose.

"There was not much entertainment, but necessity overrides that," said Bolton manager Sam Allardyce, who is being touted as a possible successor to England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. "You keep your job with points on the board."
