Genoa penalty for game-fixing confirmed
Genoa's relegation from Italy's top division to the third division for game-fixing was confirmed Monday by the country's highest soccer tribunal.
After two days of deliberations, the league appeals court also confirmed the five-year ban given Genoa president Enrico Preziosi by the disciplinary commission last week. Genoa was found guilty of sports fraud for fixing its final game last season against Venezia. Genoa won 3-2 and was promoted from Serie B to Serie A after a 10-year absence from the top league. Genoa also was docked three points from next season. Treviso of Serie B is expected to replace Genoa in the first division, but the league did not confirm that.
