Soong pledges to promote cross-Strait peace (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-07-24 20:16 James CY Soong, newly re-elected chairman of
the Taiwan based People First Party (PFP), promises on Sunday that he would go
on leading the PFP to promote both the peaceful and steady development across
the Taiwan Strait and actively advance the exchange and cooperation between the
PFP and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

myself will lead the PFP to continue to devote every effort to promote the
peaceful and steady development across the Strait and actively push forward the
exchange and cooperation between the two parties so as to better the life of the
people across the Strait and create a bright future for the Chinese nation,"
said Soong.
Soong made the remarks in a message of thanks he sent to Hu Jintao, general
secretary of the CPC Central Committee, for the congratulations the latter
extended on his being re-elected as PFP chairman.
In the message, he also thanked the warm, cordial reception that Hu and his
party rendered him during his recent trip to the Chinese mainland in May and
said his party will work to implement the conclusions reached jointly by the two
parties during the trip to meet the expectations of the people from across the
Strait.
Soong was reelected chairman of the (PFP) last Friday during an election from
June 22 to July 15, with a 99.19 percent-overwhelming majority of votes.
