Full market economy status of China

China Thursday again called for the European Union (EU) to recognize its full market economy status.

"The EU's recognition of China's full market economy status means its acknowledgement to China's positive efforts made in the establishment of socialist market economy system," China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told a regular press conference.

"From a long-term perspective, we think that will contribute to offering a more relaxed and harmonious environment for businesses of both sides to carry out mutually-beneficial cooperation," he said.

Liu expressed appreciation over the proposal to admit China's market economy status by someone from EU. He hoped that China and EU could properly solve this issue as soon as possible by strengthening communications so as to help boost the bilateral economic relations.

"That is not only a simple economic or a technical issue, but also one that requires political decision-making," he said.
