China's car output increases in April
        (Xinhua)
        Updated: 2005-05-25 20:38

Ending a decline since March 2004, China's output of sedan cars reached 263,700 in April, up 6.8 percent from the same month last year, according to statistics released Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

For the first four months, the output totaled 845,100, up 0.8 percent.

The NBS report owed the increase of the output to the increase of the output of economy cars and popular cars.

Sales of cars showed a recovery because of the price of popular cars being calmed down and the hot sales of economy cars.

The auto market in Beijing, as a part of the national market, has allowed temporary residents to buy cars since March 1. The report said this policy has stimulated the increase of car sales in Beijing.

In March Beijing sold 35,000 new cars, up 10.4 percent year-on- year, ending a drop across nine successive months. In April it reached 38,000, up 29.3 percent.

The storage of cars dropped 16.3 percent compared with the end of 2004, while the storage of high engine cars above 2.5 liters increased 66.7 percent.
