3G license may be issued on Sept

China would release a plan on 3G license issuance at the Global Summit-3G in China held this September, according to officials from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII).

They expected 3G cell phones to become commercialized by the end of this year.

The MII and the Japan FLY Company held a joint press conference in Tokyo on Mar. 30th. Chen Yuping, director of the Exchange Center of the China Academy of Telecommunications Research of the MII, indicated that China might set a timetable for 3G license issuance at the September summit. Chen also revealed that China was still testing its TD-SCDMA core technology, and might finally establish the 3G business in late 2005.

Insiders generally earlier believed that 3G licenses would be issued by June or on May 17th, the World Telecommunications Day.

Chen Yuping rejected such predictions saying "China will not manage commercialization service before finishing its tests on TD-SCDMA technology."
