A car bomb killed at least six people and wounded 28 in Baghdad on Wednesday, a police source said.

The source said the blast targeted people signing up for the Iraqi army. The six dead were members of the National Guard.

Insurgents bent on toppling the U.S.-backed interim government frequently attack security forces and police with suicide and car bombs, and have killed hundreds in such attacks.

The violence followed a suicide car bombing that killed 125 people in the southern city of Hilla on Monday, the single deadliest attack in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
