Gunmen kill at least 7 Iraqi soldiers north of Baghdad
Gunmen attacked an Iraqi National Guard checkpoint south of the restive town of Baquba on Monday, killing at least seven soldiers, a National Guard officer in the town said.
Baquba, 40 miles north of Baghdad, has seen frequent attacks as guerrillas press on with a campaign of violence and intimidation aimed at derailing Iraq's Jan. 30 elections.
Most of the attacks have targeted Iraqi police and soldiers who will be tasked with protecting voters from widely expected attacks by insurgents. |
