A baby born in an ambulance on a train station platform made it through the ordeal safe and sound.

The baby was born at 3:14 am on December 20 in Xuchang, Central China's Henan Province.

A hospital nurse said the parents and the baby left hospital on Saturday and went back to their hometown in Central China's Hubei Province.

The mother, surnamed Bao, who is also safe, gave birth to the baby just two minutes after she was transferred to the ambulance from a through train, which made an emergency stop at the Xuchang Railway Station.

On the evening of December 19, the train Bao and her husband, Li, were travelling from Beijing to Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province. Bao was planning on returning to her hometown for the delivery.

About an hour after they left Beijing, she began having contractions, which became acute in the early hours of the next day.

Her husband, surnamed Li, decided to turn to the train crew for help.

The conductor showed up and summoned several experienced women crew members to deal with this unexpected problem. He also tried to find a doctor on the train through the train broadcast system.

Within minutes, a woman medical student came to help and said the pregnant woman would give birth to her baby within one or two hours but said she was not capable of dealing with the emergency.

The conductor requested an emergency stop at nearby railway station and halted the train in Xuchang.

Doctors from Xuchang First Aid Centre and crew members, transferred the pregnant woman to an ambulance on the station platform. About two minutes later, she gave birth.

After the delivery, the mother and her baby were taken to a local hospital.
