Shaq, McGrady pace NBA best-seller list
Shaquille O'Neal's new Miami Heat uniform is the most popular selling replica jersey among all National Basketball Association players, the league announced.
O'Neal was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Heat in the off-season, giving the league a sales and marketing boost of a marquee player in a new outfit.
Houston's Tracy McGrady, the NBA's top scorer the past two seasons, also made an off-season switch. His move from Orlando to Houston has helped boost him to second on the sales list with Stephon Marbury third.
LeBron James, last season's NBA Rookie of the Year, was fourth, followed by US Olympic teammates Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson.
Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was seventh with rookie Emeka Okafor eighth in the new jersey for the first-year expansion Charlotte Bobcats. Tim Duncan of San Antonio was ninth and Detroit's Ben Wallace finished the top 10.
China's Yao Ming, the star center for the Houston Rockets, has the best-selling jersey for non-US players and ranks 13th overall.
Germany's Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas big man leading the NBA in scoring with 27.7 points a game, ranks next among international players and 18th overall.
Among team souvenir item sales, the New York Knicks, Lakers and Chicago Bulls top the list. Miami was fifth and Houston seventh, both clubs new to the list and aided by obtaining new star players this season. |
