Beijing police canceled a candlelight vigil scheduled for Monday night to memorialize "Rape of Nanking" author Iris Chang, who killed herself in California earlier in the month.

Police asked for a halt to the event after hearing 10 lead organizers discussing it on Monday morning, one organizer said.

The 10 are Chinese citizens, some of whom have a history of organizing anti-Japan protests in Beijing.
