Wen meets Ethiopian PM in Beijing
        By Jiang Zhuqing (China Daily)

China plans to work with Ethiopia to help enterprises in both countries work together.

"China attaches great importance to the relations with Ethiopia," said Premier Wen Jiabao Tuesday when meeting with visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

After many years of development, relations between the two countries are prospering, said Zenawi.

China plans to increase bilateral ties in four ways, Wen said.

First, it will maintain a strong momentum of high-level exchanges to consolidate the friendship.

Second, China will enlarge economic and trade co-operation so that the enterprises of the two countries can work more closely together in agriculture, textiles, resource tapping, infrastructure construction and tourism, Wen said.

The country will also encourage personnel exchanges while, in addition, the two nations plan to enhance co-ordination in international affairs to work towards world peace and regional stability, Wen said.

Zenawi reiterated that Ethiopia would firmly stick to the one-China policy.

When speaking of the Sino-African relations, Zenawi said Ethiopia would seek more co-operation with China within the framework of the Sino-Africa Forum.

"It is an important task for many African countries to maintain stability and eliminate poverty," Wen said. "China wishes that the African continent could maintain political stability and achieve economic progress."

The African countries could deal with the challenges of globalization through the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development, Wen said.

"For this, China would provide whatever support is possible."

Under the mechanism of Sino-African Forum, China will work with Ethiopia to push forward pragmatic co-operation between China and the continent.

At the invitation of Premier Wen, Zenawi arrived in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province on Sunday, for a six-day tour to China.

He will also meet with President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders in Beijing and then fly to Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong Province.

In Xi'an, a capital of several Chinese dynasties for more than 1,000 years, Zenawi visited a high-tech agricultural zone and the terra cotta warriors and steeds of Qinshihuang, China's first imperial emperor, on Monday.

It is the second time Zenawi visits China as prime minister. His first visit was in 1995.
