Strong earthquake hits southwest Tibet
A strong earthquake shook southwest Tibet on Tuesday, but no damage or injuries were reported, state television said. The magnitude-5.7 temblor hit at 10:11 a.m. (0211GMT) in Zhadapulanjian, near the Himalayan mountain range, China Central Television reported. The snow-covered area is sparsely-populated, the report said. In August, a quake struck the northern part of the region, near the tracklaying base for a railway project that stretches from Tibet to neighboring Qinghai province. No deaths or injuries were reported. |
