A group of assassins killed Colombian soccer player Miguel Mosquera, former player of Bolivia' s Blooming, at the city of Buga, police said on Monday.

The crime was carried out by two unknown individuals on Saturday. Riding a motorcycle, they shot Mosquera 14 times when he returned home.

An investigation has started for the cause and suspects, police said.

Mosquera, 38, started his career in America of Cali, from where he made it into the First Division with Santa Fe de Bogota. His next team was Bolivia's Blooming, and he ended his career in Cortulua of Colombia.

Mosquera, who coached an amateur team of Buga municipality, was the eighth Colombian players murdered over the past decade.

These victims include striker Omar Canas, killed in 1993; defender Andres Escobar, murdered in 1994; midfielders Felipe Perez and Juan Villa, assassinated in 1996; ex-player Norberto Cadavid, slain in 2001, and Albeiro Usuriaga, killed in February this year.
