Chinese, Japanese FMs discuss ties
Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met his Japanese counterpart Nobutaka Machimura Saturday in Hanoi, reaffirming the guidelines for smooth development of bilateral relations. Li, who is accompanying Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao for the Asia-Europe meeting held in Hanoi, told Machimura that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the Sino-Japanese relationship. "We are willing to work with the Japanese side to push forward bilateral relations on the basis of the principles outlined in the three political documents that the two governments have signed and in the spirit of 'taking history as a mirror and looking into the future'," the Chinese foreign minister said. Machimura said he always believes that the Japanese-Chinese friendship is conducive to the interests of the two peoples and beneficial to the entire Asia and the world. He said that he will make active efforts in improving the relations between Japan and China. Before meeting Machimura, Li met Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn and Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou. |
